Clara Schumann - 3 Romances, Op. 22 (Transcribed for Cello and String Orchestra)
Clara Schumann’s Three Romances, Op. 22, were written on July 14, 1853, the same year as the collaborative F-A-E Sonata, and were offered to Joseph Joachim as a gesture of friendship. It is possible that their first performance took place on the same day as the F-A-E Sonata, since Clara Schumann was the pianist at that October 1853 event. These lyrical pieces remain among her most beloved chamber works, combining expressive intimacy with the refinement of mid-nineteenth-century Romantic style.
This fresh orchestration preserves the original keys and follows the authentic spirit of the period. It is available in versions for solo violin or solo cello with string orchestra. The string writing is practical and flexible, with only a small handful of viola divisi; in general, by following the top voice, the ensemble may be reduced to a string quintet.
This version is for solo cello with string orchestra, and the set includes the full score, solo part, and orchestra parts. With its warm Romantic character and manageable technical demands, this arrangement is well suited for recitals, student concerto programs, string orchestra features, and lyrical ensemble programming.
The cello-piano version is sold separately: https://yuriyleonovich.com/product/644101-clara-schumann-3-romances-op-22-transcribed-for-cello-and-piano
