Dvořák - Cigánské melodie (Gypsy Songs), Op. 55 (Transcribed for Cello and Piano)

Dvořák’s Gypsy Songs are among his best-known vocal works, with “Když mne stará matka” (Songs My Mother Taught Me) as the centerpiece of the cycle. This transcription of the complete song cycle for cello and piano preserves the spirit of the original songs. The vocal line is retained with the original slurring in the score, while the cello part includes practical bowings and fingerings. Some piano lines have also been transferred to the cello during the interludes.

The cello part is mostly at approximately the Suzuki Book 3 level, apart from a handful of more advanced measures in the final songs.
