Leonovich - 2 Christmas Carols, a fantasy for 2 Cellos

This fun two-part fantasy is based on the Ukrainian carol “Sleep, Jesus, Sleep” (Спи, Ісусе, спи!) and “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.” The arrangement brings together two contrasting Christmas melodies: the first meditative and tender, the second transformed into a lively polonaise.

Both cello parts share melodic material, giving each player a chance to carry the tune. The writing is accessible while still offering musical variety, expressive phrasing, and rhythmic character.

This arrangement is suitable for intermediate cellists and works well for recitals, Christmas programs, church services, or seasonal studio performances.
