J. S. Bach - Keyboard/Violin Concerto in F (G) minor, BWV 1056 (Transcribed for Cello and Strings)

Cellists are often drawn to Bach’s concerto repertoire, and this arrangement brings the F minor Keyboard Concerto, BWV 1056, into the cello’s range. Unlike the brighter A major and E major concertos, this is one of Bach’s darker and more compact concerto works, with a directness and intensity that translate especially well to the cello.

This version is transposed to G minor for greater ease and resonance on the instrument. G minor is also the key of the purported lost violin concerto from which BWV 1056 may have originated. The slow movement is the same music as the famous Arioso, also known as the Sinfonia, from Cantata No. 156.
