Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major has become a staple of the cello repertoire since its rediscovery in 1961. Our edition of the solo part is intended to shed light on the contents of the rediscovered manuscript without requiring performers to consult an expensive critical commentary.
All changes have been documented in footnotes. Editorial ties and accidentals have been inserted where we felt they were necessary, and are clearly indicated. The cadenzas in the first and second movements are printed as they appear in the manuscript, at the ends of their respective movements.
We would like to thank the Národní Muzeum in Prague for placing a copy of the manuscript at our disposal.
