Vivaldi's RV 407 concerto begins with an energetic canon between the violins. The soloist is required to play the obbligato part for the first 7 bars. The notation of these bars is shorthand and may be interpreted as printed or with alternating 16th notes between the D and A strings. The solo part stays in the first four positions with the exception of m. 15 in the first movement, where the fifth position is needed briefly, approached stepwise. The slow movement is a sarabande over a unison ground bass. The finale is an exciting gigue in binary form.

Our edition is based on the manuscript copy of the parts held at Schönborn-Wiesentheid Musiksammlung. Thank you to the University of North Carolina Cello Collection for helping us obtain a copy of the manuscript. This set includes an orchestra score and separate parts. For a cello part with fingerings and bowings see the piano reduction.
