Vivaldi's RV 419 is one of five cello concertos he composed in A minor. The first-movement ritornellos are driven by the motivic motor in the bass. The solo part stays within the first four positions, occasionally reaching for the A harmonic. Bar 29 is the only place in the concerto that required the sixth position, and that is approached linearly.

The tranquil slow movement is accompanied by an off-beat basso continuo. The finale is an exciting ground-bass-variation minuet. The special feature in the finale is the tremolo in the solo and violin II parts.

Our edition is based on the autograph score housed at Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria, Turin (I-Tn): Foà 29, f.118-125. This set includes an orchestra score and separate parts. For a cello part with fingerings and bowings see the piano reduction.
