Clara Schumann - Romance from Piano Concerto, Op. 7 (Transcribed for Cello and Piano)
Clara Schumann, née Wieck, composed her Piano Concerto while still a teenager, yet the work shows a musical maturity far beyond her years. This arrangement presents the Romanze, or Romance, from the concerto, reimagined for cello and piano.
In the original version, much of the Romanze is played by unaccompanied piano, with the solo cello entering later as a lyrical partner. In this arrangement, the piano’s opening melody has been adapted for the cello, giving the cellist a more central role and creating a more equal dialogue between the two instruments throughout the movement.
With its lyrical beauty, gentle expressiveness, and balanced interplay between cello and piano, this arrangement is well suited for recitals, lessons, and intermediate-level repertoire building. It offers cellists a fresh way to explore one of Clara Schumann’s most appealing early works.
