The Intermezzo from Enrique Granados’s opera Goyescas was one of the last pieces the composer wrote. This short showpiece was not included in the original published score of the opera, but was composed later for the premiere at the Metropolitan Opera on January 26, 1916.
Gaspar Cassadó’s 1923 arrangement of the Intermezzo helped make the piece famous, and it has since become a staple of the cello repertoire. Our new edition is based on the 1923 Schirmer edition. In addition to presenting a beautifully newly engraved score and part, this edition seeks to clarify and correct problematic slurring in the cello part.
