Tchaikovsky's Pezzo Capriccioso is a staple of the cello repertoire, but until now, there has not been a reliable edition of this piece. Our new edition is based on 3 sources, the piano version autograph, the orchestra version autograph, and the first edition published by Jurgenson. The edition includes both the standard version and the original version. The piano autograph contains Tchaikovsky's original cello part. The orchestra autograph has the standard version of the cello part, written in Brandukov's hand. In fact, this standard version of the cello part is by Brandukov, revised at the composer's request. This is the version that was premiered in 1889, so we can rest assured that Tchaikovsky approved Brandukov's version, which was also the source for the Jurgenson edition. We would like to thank culture.ru for making the manuscripts available to us.
