Nin - Granadina (Transcribed for 5 cellos)
Joaquín Nin (1879–1949) was a Cuban-born pianist, composer, and important figure in the early twentieth-century revival of Spanish music. He was especially known for his editions of early Spanish music and his arrangements of Spanish popular songs and dances, which helped bring this repertoire to a wider concert audience. Granadina comes from this world of Spanish folk-inspired song, drawing on music from Granada in Andalusia.
This arrangement presents Granadina for five cellos. The melody’s lyrical, vocal character transfers naturally to cello ensemble, while the texture gives the group opportunities for color, balance, rhythmic nuance, and expressive phrasing.
This transcription is suitable for intermediate cello ensembles and works well for cello choir concerts, studio classes, recitals, and programs featuring Spanish or folk-inspired repertoire. Listen to this arrangement here: https://youtu.be/0zaK2JG-p-k
