François Servais (1807–1866), the Belgian cello virtuoso and composer, was one of the most imaginative fantasia composers of the nineteenth century. His Grande Fantaisie sur des motifs de l’Opéra Le Barbier de Séville de Rossini, Op. 6, is one of his most interesting works in the genre. Cast in four large sections, it resembles a miniature sonata while retaining the brilliant operatic character of the fantasy tradition.

This Urtext edition is based primarily on the first edition, published by Schott in 1848 and graciously provided by the Servais Society. The 1843 holograph manuscript was also consulted, though it differs too substantially from the final version to serve as a primary source.

This is the version for cello and string quintet. The set includes a score, solo part, and quintet parts.
