J. S. Bach - Prelude in C minor, BWV 999 (Transcribed for Cello Solo)
Bach’s Prelude, BWV 999, originally composed for lute, is presented here in an arrangement for solo cello. This edition includes two versions: one in C minor and one in G minor, giving cellists a choice between the original tonal world of the piece and a version that lies especially naturally on the instrument.
The prelude’s flowing arpeggiated texture transfers beautifully to the cello, offering a compact and expressive Baroque work suitable for study, lessons, church services, recitals, or personal repertoire. The G minor version also works especially well as part of a short solo set followed by Saint-Saëns’s Bourrée, Op. 135 No. 4, transcribed for cello solo (https://yuriyleonovich.com/product/651203-saint-saens-bourree-op-135-no-4-transcribed-for-cello-solo).
This arrangement is designed to preserve the character of Bach’s original while making the passagework practical and resonant on the cello.
