Georg Philipp Telemann’s 12 Fantasias for Viola da Gamba Solo were first published in 1735 and were long thought lost before their rediscovery in the twenty-first century. These remarkable works reveal Telemann’s imagination, variety, and deep understanding of solo string writing, moving freely between dance, counterpoint, lyricism, and brilliant figuration.

This transcription brings the complete set into the solo cello repertoire. The Gamba Fantasias make a substantial addition to Baroque music for unaccompanied cello, offering approximately an hour and a half of music across twelve distinct works. Each fantasia has its own character, making the collection useful both as a complete cycle and as a source of individual pieces for study or performance.

We are happy to release the second edition of this volume. Accessible, varied, and musically rewarding, these transcriptions are well suited for lessons, recitals, studio classes, and cellists looking to expand their Baroque solo repertoire beyond the standard works.
