Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, reflect his lifelong admiration for Mozart’s music and remain one of the central works of the cello repertoire. This arrangement presents the standard seven-variation version in a chamber setting for cello and string quintet, using the variation order most commonly performed today.
The arrangement is based directly on my source-based edition of the work. Special care was taken to keep the quintet writing idiomatic and transparent while supporting the solo line with clarity, balance, and stylistic authenticity.
The performance package includes a full score, complete string quintet parts, and the cello solo part drawn directly from my orchestral edition. Suitable for both performance and study, this arrangement offers a historically informed chamber alternative to the larger orchestral version while preserving the familiar seven-variation form.
