Originally published as a composition by Frescobaldi, it is now established that this famous Toccata was composed by Cassadó at a time when musical hoaxes were at their height of popularity. This work is neo-baroque at best and does not share any features with Frescobaldi's music. However, on its own merit, the Toccata is a beautiful work and deserves to be a part of the cello repertoire. Our edition is based on the first edition published by Universal Edition, including Cassadó's original fingerings and bowings. Incorrect pitches in the cello part have been fixed.
